| "This is the day the Lord has made. Rejoice and be glad in it!" (exclamation point mine) Psalm 118:24. God is still on the Throne! Elections are frustrating, but God is good! I woke up very early this morning, to get to work before anyone else to finish a project. As the faint dawn light filtered in through the windows, I looked at my lovely sleeping bride, and snuck a peek at my precious snoozing children. How blessed I am!!! It doesn't really matter who controls congress, 'cause I know Who controls it all! Thank You, Lord, for salvation, for my beautiful family, for dear friends, and for this still-better-than-anywhere-else nation. Thank You! | | |
| Here's what I just sent to the Chico Enterprise-Record. They always publish my rantings. I hope you like it. Here's some election reflections. As a Republican, I'm not too thrilled about the losses on Tuesday. But, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. I understand that. What I don't understand, is how the majority of Californians have twice this year rejected a proposition to notify parents prior to their minor daughter's abortion. The school nurse can't dispense an aspirin to your child without your approval, but she can get an abortion without even your knowledge, let alone your consent. How can anyone justify that? Frankly, it's indefensible, and shameful. Sensibly, Californians did approve Proposition 83, which increases penalties for violent and habitual sex offenders. 70.5% of voters saw the logic in that. Amazingly, 53% of the voters in the City/County of San Francisco voted no! How is that possible? Do you know who represents these fine people in congress? The soon-to-be speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, that's who. God have mercy on us all! | | |
| Election Reflection...
I'm frustrated with George W. Bush. But, not for the reasons you might think. He is unfortunately one of very few people in positions of authority in this country who actually understand that the world is indeed a very dangerous place. He has been unwavering in his resolve, but inept at articulating the gravity of living in a nation at war. He has since 9/11 keenly grasped that we face an enemy that is bent on the destruction of our very way of life. Mr. Bush does not sit in the Oval Office with a clear face of the enemy as did all of his wartime predecessors. We aren't fighting Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union. It makes his job as Commander in Chief more difficult, and the press provides him no asssitance to get the message to the American people. Nonetheless, he did ask for the job. It is his responsibility to truly lead us--to get us to understand how treacherous are the modern waters in which we tread...but, alas, he is no Ronald Reagan.
I am deeply disappointed with the Republican Party, and particularly their leadership. I express this point of view from the position of Glenn County Republican Party Chairman, so I'm taking shots at my own crowd. The Party swept into power beginning with the House in 1994, and soon followed with the Senate, and then in 2000 with the White House. Yes, they have given us tax relief, which has brought about a terrific economy, in spite of terrorist attacks, natural disasters and a recession. But, what about border security? What about Social Security reform? What about the pork? The scandals? They simply have been seduced by the power, and now they take a back seat once more. Long forgotten is the agenda of true conservatism that brought them to the dance in the first place. They have squandered years of control of both houses of Congress and the White House. They could have accomplished much. They could have rendered the Democratic Party obsolete. But, because of the drift from principal, it is a sad new day...
Cate and I just returned from watching "Flag of our Fathers," directed by Clint Eastwood. The critics didn't think much of it, but with quiet dignity Mr Eastwood conveyed the sacrifices of very ordinary citizens when duty called. Self absorbed, affluent and largely ignorant modern day Americans could have no real appreciation for what it took to win WWII. We lost over a half-million men. But it was worth it. Today, we've lost a tiny fraction of that number in the War on Terror. During WWII, everyone sent a family member or friend off to war, and everyone made at least small sacrifices here at home, such as gas and tire rationing, etc. Today, we simply suffer from ennui with a conflict that doesn't really seem to affect us much. Iraq is so far away, and the collapse of the Twin Towers was over 5 years ago. Who cares, 'cause it's time for the NFL! Christmas is coming, and we've got shopping to do!
It is these same clueless folks, cleverly defined as "moderates," that in reality don't care about much except themselves. They don't deem it necessary to stay informed throughout the year, so they can be swayed by a television commercial during election season! It's a shame that so many Americans have no core values.
The real shame is here in California, where for the second time this year, a Ballot Initiative to require parental permission prior to an abortion performed on a minor was defeated. Twice in the same year! There was also a measure on the ballot the strengthen penalties for sex offenders. This one passed, but in the city of San Francisco, Prop 83 was voted down by 77% of the voters! Guess who represents these deviants in Congress? That's right, the soon-to-be Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi.
May God have mercy on the United States of America. Our enemies certainly shall not...
Stay tuned. Next time I'll share my ideas for real Campaign Finance Reform. | | |
| So...John Kerry has once again proven why we should vote Republican. The Democratic leadership continues to express their self-loathing. Frankly, I consider it a complement to be a fellow "right wing nut-job" with other Republicans. From the Democrat Party point of view, any Christian is considered such, as well as anyone with any real core principles. It's all a matter of world-view you see. Either God created the earth and everything upon it, or we climbed out of the sludge in our own sweet time, and as the most advanced species on the planet, we have to grab all the gusto we can while we're here--and a little truth-bending and histrionics is part of the deal. But, when he insults the intelligence of the finest group of young volunteers in the world, that's going too far. Any disgruntled Republican, or just plain real American, should get off their duff and hit the voting booth next week. The possibility of a Nancy Pelosi/Harry Reid/John Kerry/Charlie Rangel/Chuckie Schumer/Howard Dean/blah, blah blah congressional leadership is just plain frightening! Well, this is Halloween. Ha ha! Soooooo, I hope I've convinced you to do what I'm gonna do. VOTE FOR PEDRO!!! | | |
| Hello all my current and future friends. I am not really a 6'9" NBA star, I just wish I was! The "New Me" is really just a slightly technologically challenged, gracefully aging (hopefully!) newbie to the Blogosphere. Check back periodically for my sage ramblings on matters spiritual and temporal. Occasionally, I shall even regale you with my latest dream-usually entertaining, and always silly! Welcome to my slightly deranged world! | | |
